Google brings new search features to Europe

Google has introduced a number of new features to its search engine that are specifically designed for users in the European Economic Area (EEA). The changes are a direct response to the newly introduced Digital Markets Act (DMA) . Which aims to increase competition and protect consumer rights in the digital environment.

What’s new in Google search?

  • Carousels: Users can use interactive carousels to provide clearer and more attractive search results. Especially when searching for products or services.
  • Link aggregators: New link aggregators will make it easier for users to access different sources of information on a specific topic. Allowing them to quickly compare offerings from different providers and make more informed decisions.
  • Flight information boxes: When searching for flight tickets. users will see clear information boxes that will contain important information about prices. flight times. and other relevant facts.

Why these changes?

The main reason for these innovations is to adapt to the requirements of the Digital Markets Act. This law aims to limit the dominant email list position of large technology companies and create a fairer playing field for smaller businesses. Google. as one of the largest players in the search market. must respect these requirements and implement changes that will lead to greater transparency and competition.

Google is implementing these features in Europe due to legal obligations to comply with DMA requirements.

It went into effect in March

Requires significant changes from companies such as Google. Apple. Amazon. Meta. Microsoft. and ByteDance.

Google. as the designated gatekeeper. must modify products like search. maps. and the Android app store to comply.
